Ear Assessment Training – Otomize
This course has been designed to provide healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills required to confidently carry out an ear assessment in a safe, structured, and patient-centred manner.
Over the duration of the course, you will explore each stage of the consultation process, from taking a detailed clinical history through to completing and recording your findings. You will learn how to gather relevant information about the patient’s symptoms, background, and medicines, and apply recognised tools and techniques to support a structured, person-centred approach to history taking.
The course will also guide you through the practical aspects of an ear examination. You will gain an understanding of the basic anatomy of the ear and develop the skills required to use an otoscope effectively. Emphasis will be placed on interpreting findings accurately, recognising red flags, and applying clinical reasoning to support safe diagnosis and decision making.
In addition, the course highlights the importance of evidence-based practice, drawing on relevant NICE guidelines, infection prevention measures (including correct handwashing), and professional standards. You will also learn how to safely close a consultation, including safety netting, appropriate signposting, and referrals when required.
Finally, the course reinforces the importance of accurate and concise record keeping, ensuring that your documentation supports continuity of care and effective data sharing across healthcare settings.
