Contraception Pharmacy First
This online course has been designed for pharmacists who are delivering the Pharmacy First service and who may be asked to continue or initiate oral contraception in eligible patients. It has been written in line with national guidance, professional standards, and the clinical experience of our expert trainers.
This programme provides a comprehensive overview of contraception in practice. It covers the different types of oral contraception available, their eligibility and exclusion criteria, and the associated risks. In addition, it explores Gillick competency and Fraser guidelines, ensuring you are confident in assessing young people. The course also addresses safeguarding responsibilities, highlighting the importance of recognising and responding appropriately to safeguarding concerns when supporting girls and women with contraception needs.
By the end of this training, you will have the knowledge and confidence to provide safe, effective, and patient-centred contraception services within the Pharmacy First framework. This is an ideal course for pharmacists who wish to expand their service offering and play an active role in improving access to contraception in the community.
