About our PGDs

Our range of PGDs

Our Independent Medical Agency at ECG Healthcare has developed a wide range of Patient Group Directions (PGDs) to enable the delivery of private services within GPhC registered pharmacies or CQC registered clinics. We hold the required accreditation for our PGDs to be used across the UK, including Northern Ireland.

Our PGDs can be used by registered healthcare professionals and are valid for 12 months from the date of issue. Purchasing via our website is quick and easy, and your PGD will be available to download and use within one hour of purchase.

We believe in giving our customers choice and flexibility, which is why we do not specify how consultations should be recorded. You may use your own in-house platform or clinical system, or alternatively record consultations directly onto the patient PMR. For those who wish to use a digital platform, we have partnered with Charac. (See details below)

In addition to offering a wide range of PGDs, we also offer two different types of PGD. Our new premises PGD is a cost-effective option for branches or clinics where multiple healthcare professionals work.

Personal or Premises PGD – What is the difference?

Personal PGD

A personal PGD covers one healthcare professional for use within a registered pharmacy or clinic.

This PGD may also be used by the same healthcare professional in other branches within the same company, provided they are covered by the same Superintendent.

The PGD can also be used for off-site clinics, such as those held in care homes.

Premises PGD

A premises PGD is purchased for one branch and covers multiple healthcare professionals working within that branch.

Please note that a premises PGD cannot be used across multiple branches or clinic sites. A separate premises PGD is required for each individual branch or clinic site.

The PGD may also be used for off-site clinics, such as those held in care homes.

Can I purchase a PGD if I am a Locum?

In order to deliver a service within a pharmacy or clinic, a PGD must be authorised by the Superintendent or Clinical Lead, who is responsible for the safe delivery of services within their company. They must authorise the PGD to confirm that:

  • they are happy for the service to be delivered; and
  • they are happy for the healthcare professional to deliver the service

If you are a locum and wish to deliver a service, we advise that you contact the Superintendent or Clinical Lead of the company you will be working for. Ask whether they are happy for you to deliver the service and whether they are willing to authorise the PGD.

Please note that once purchased, a PGD can only be used in branches covered by the Superintendent who has authorised it.

Training requirements

We do not specify mandatory training requirements for the use of our PGDs, and we do not check training certificates. It is the responsibility of the healthcare professional using the PGD to ensure they are competent to deliver the service. If you are experienced in delivering a service and hold the necessary training certificates, you may not require any additional training.

If you are new to a particular service, we offer accredited training and refresher courses, including:

  • Vaccination training
  • BLS/Anaphylaxis training
  • Use of an otoscope
  • Medicated weight management training

For some PGDs, your professional education and experience may already provide the competence required to deliver the service. In such cases, you may only need additional self-directed refresher training, such as reviewing NICE guidelines, completing a CPPE course, or reading the Green Book, to ensure you feel competent.

Our PGDs are easy to purchase via this website (see below). Please check your eligibility and training options before purchasing, as we are unable to issue refunds once a purchase has been made.
