A new Chaperoning (online) Course
This course has been re-designed from the ground up by our in-house Clinical Support team to work as a great alternative to face to face training, or as a refresher. Being online means 24/7 course access, ideal for tablets, smartphones and laptops. Similar to our previous Chaperoning course it is for non-clinical staff such as GP receptionists and care staff who may be asked to act as a chaperone and need some formal training. The new online course will include an array of support materials including the use of pictures and interactive activities, an online assessment and certificate of successful course completion.
This Chaperoning course is designed to give you the fundamental building blocks of the needs of a Chaperone. It should be used in conjunction with your Chaperone Policy that is in operation at your Practice. Please note, it does not cover how specific procedures or examinations should be carried out, this should be discussed with a Clinician who is familiar with your local policies and procedures.
It is exciting times here at ECG and we are delighted with the new products and services we are able to offer you. Keep up to date with our latest news on our website, blog or simply give us a call in the office 0845 423 8993.
Note: An on-site Chaperoning course is also available.

ECG launches its new resuscitation equipment range
After 15 years of providing healthcare training, we are now launching our new range of resuscitation equipment, available from our online shop.
This will allow our customers to purchase resuscitation equipment they may need within a primary care setting. We regularly get asked about where to purchase a pocket mask or other equipment from and many find it difficult buying single items, so we want to break down those barriers.

New Basic Life Support Course (Coming Soon!)
We will soon be launching a blended, online and face to face Basic Life Support course, aligned to Core Skills Training Framework (CSTF) Level 2. This course is designed for organisations where healthcare professionals have a duty to respond.
In line with guidance from the Resuscitation Council (UK), this training includes an online theory section which is first completed at the individual’s own convenience, and then one of our clinical trainers will come onsite to complete the practical skill assessment. This means the healthcare professionals are only away from their normal duties for a short period to undertake a practical assessment, dramatically reducing the cost and time pressure of providing this mandatory training.

Supporting MK Midnight Moo – raising money for Willen Hospice
On Saturday 15th July, team ECG were at the Intu Milton Keynes supporting Willen Hospice for their largest annual event.
With the walkers being entertained by MKFM between 10pm and midnight before setting off, we took along our family of manikins so people could practise their CPR skills and learn how to use a defibrillator. It was well received, with the MKFM and the Police even giving it a go, as well as the Midnight Moo mascot ‘Florence the cow!’
Amazing to hear that all the walkers raised over £100K at this event so a huge well done to everyone! See you next year……

As a medical training company we spend most of our time delivering resuscitation or clinical skills training to healthcare professionals, whether it be nurses, doctors, pharmacists, dentists or their teams. We love the fact that we can influence better patient care and our dynamic nurse and paramedic trainers share plenty of their own clinical experiences.
Our CEO is a nurse and she has always been passionate about CPR training. From a young age she witnessed a family member in cardiac arrest and has always felt she wanted to strive to improve the chance of survival through good resuscitation attempts. To do this she recognises that it is also the ‘bystanders’ who perhaps first witness someone collapsing that need to know what to do.
Many people just ‘don’t get round to’ attending some first aid training, and plenty of people do not have the confidence to start CPR. We want to help train more people in Milton Keynes so ultimately more local people can get involved if they find someone collapsed.
There are so many more public access defibrillators around in villages, communities centres and shopping centres now that the more people who have the confidence to pick one up and use it in an emergency, the better the chance of survival for the victim.
As a company, we want to put something back into our local community and the year where we are celebrating Milton Keynes being 50 seems the ideal time to do it!
Therefore, we have launched our ‘Saving Lives in MK’ campaign – where we will be offering two free CPR sessions every month to non-healthcare organisations, schools, businesses or friend groups to you if you are based in Milton Keynes. Our trainers will either come out to your suitable venue in Milton Keynes or we can invite you to our training venue in Cosgrove. We will cover CPR and how to use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator).
You will also see us at some key MK50 events this year, teaching these skills to the community.
Contact us if you’re interested in being involved and learning essential life skills!

ECG provide kit for AED Community Training Events
At ECG, we work closely with our trainers to support good causes.
Recently, we provided kit to enable an AED familiarisation session to be run at the Village Hall in Hail Weston, Cambridgeshire. 18 local residents attended, which was a good turnout for quite a small village. Only one attendee had ever done any type of BLS training before, so there were LOTS of questions! They were all keen to learn and know how to make use of the community access AED that they themselves had fundraised for.
Following the session, they are now talking about fundraising for a second AED for the village, so that everyone in the village is never more than 5 mins away from one. We have also agreed to support a 1 hour AED refresher session for some of the staff at an infant school, where another public access AED has been placed in the community by local fundraising.
It is great to see our trainers helping in their local community and we are always happy to help them.

As we continue to fundraise and support good causes, here’s a summary of some of the things we got up to last year, as well as some news on plans for 2017.
In 2016, we supported Beating Bowel Cancer and raised over £1000. ECG raised £300 by donating a percentage of our profits from a training day in October and almost £700 by taking part in the Smartie Challenge. Jane, our MD is going to further support their cause by attending a Parliamentary Reception at the House of Commons on 25 January!
We work closely with our trainers when supporting charity. ECG part funded one of our paramedic trainers in his charity trip to Ghana. Amazing work! We shared his story on Twitter, so if you’re not already following us, sign up @ECG_MK to follow our news.
In addition, ECG trainers provided FREE training for school children in support of Restartaheart Day in October, which saw organisations across the UK train a total of 150,000 children!
Finally, we are delighted to announce our charity of 2017 is The UK Sepsis Trust. We are currently planning events to raise money and awareness of the Trust and Sepsis. Plus, we’ll be launching a new Sepsis Awareness session this year, so watch this space!

World Blood Donor Day 14 June 2016
To meet the demand of hospitals and patients in the UK, over 6,000 people need to give blood every day!
Blood donations are an essential part of our healthcare system. Doctors and surgeons rely on blood donations to carry out life-saving and life-enhancing treatments every day, and if we did not have volunteers giving blood, many medical procedures we take for granted could not take place.
In England, around 8,000 blood transfusions are carried out every day, and although most people between the ages of 17 and 66 can donate blood, only about 4% of the population donate regularly.
Blood can only be safely stored for a relatively short time, therefore hospital blood stocks need to be continuously refreshed. Red blood cells can only be stored for 35 days and platelets (the part of the blood that helps prevent excessive bleeding) can only be stored for seven days.
World blood donor day focuses on thanking blood donors. It aims to highlight stories of people whose lives have been saved through blood donation to motivate regular blood donors to continue to give blood, and encourage people in good health, who have never given blood, to begin doing so, particularly young people.
Giving blood can save a life. You can see some amazing case studies here: https://www.blood.co.uk/why-give-blood/who-you-could-help/

ECG introduces new Mental Health Awareness course
Mental Health is becoming an increasing focus for all healthcare professionals; with statistics now estimating that, by 2030, there will be approximately two million more adults in the UK with mental health problems than in 2013.
With one in four people in the UK experiencing a mental health problem in any given year, patient suicides are becoming considerably more common. Worryingly, as numbers increase, mental health services provided by NHS trusts have fallen by 8.25 per cent, £600 million, from 2010-2015.
ECG’s new course, aiming to improve patient and staff social wellbeing, caters for all staff in the NHS working within a patient-centred environment.
The course content includes information on the definition of ‘mental health’; how to recognise signs of mental health issues; reduce stigma surrounding mental health in the workplace; identify employee responsibilities of wellbeing in the workplace, as well as giving attendees advice on guiding to support and professional help; reducing the risk of mental health issues; and increasing skills and knowledge to support mental health issues.
The enhanced course, aimed at employers and managers, also includes regulatory and legal requirements to support and protect employees, as well as discussing responsibilities and how to implement a wellbeing policy.
