This course is designed for staff with an enhanced Fire Safety role. The course meets the training requirements detailed by the Department for Communities, Local Government guidance and current workplace fire safety legislation.

Learning objectives – To equip the participant with sufficient knowledge and skills to:

  • meet the training requirements detailed in the Department for Communities, Local Government guidance and current workplace fire safety legislation
  • describe key fire safety duties under the law
  • recognise habitual human behaviour in a fire situation
  • define the role of a fire marshal in relation to fire safety
  • state the basic principles of risk assessment
  • prevent fire or limit its impact
  • state the common modes of building evacuation
  • recognise the need for fire drills and pre-planning for fire
  • recognise active and passive fire safety features and facilities
  • identify and use a range of portable fire extinguishers

Learning outcomes will be achieved through demonstration, discussion, group work under supervision and practical scenarios
